Effects of Root Canal Therapy

What root canal therapy is all about and when is it needed? It’s the procedure of removing the root from the canal of the tooth and it is in order to retain the tooth without any sort of pain or discomfort. Normally there is no pain when it comes to tooth nerves, but when there is severe damage, decay or other such problems then the root of the tooth can become highly sensitive, resulting in pain and other complications too. The therapy saves the tooth while eliminating never hence, there is no pain. There is at least one root canal in every tooth, but there can be more depending on the size of the tooth and other factors. Tissue and nerve are removed from the tooth which prevents tooth loss and other problems.

Root canal therapy is also known as endodontic treatment, and it is performed when there are problems in the tooth because of damage or contamination. Teeth also have nerve tissue containing blood vessels and some other structures too which help the teeth stay healthy and strong. When infection or damage is caused because of contamination inside the tooth then it effects the nerve tissue and it can result in fever, infection and pain.

Tooth has to be pulled out without root canal therapy, so one can avoid missing a tooth or teeth with this therapy. Dentists do not pull out the tooth if there is room for this treatment whereas others leave it to the patients. Cost of the treatment varies as it depends on the number of root canals. If there are more than one root canal in the tooth then the patient has to pay more.

Root canal therapy usually requires more than one visit, and at times requires numerous appointments before the complete process. Dentist has to clean out each and every root canal and it takes a lot of time. Once the tooth is completely cleaned then it’s sealed, before the cleaning dentist takes x-rays so the length of the root can be determined. All these steps help the dentist in determining if root canal treatment is the best option or not.
